The Free People's Union (FPU) consist mostly of inmates who took over the Llyr Galactic Penitentiary (LGP) through a riot. The FPU consists of several gangs, though it is often viewed as a single force by those who are ignorant of the FPU as a whole or for the sake of Military Logistics. The FPU is known for its fractured but somehow cohesive nature, with shifting loyalties often making pinning down any members easy or hard, even varying by the hour; A gang war today could be a coalition tommorrow. Despite being in its infantile state, the FPU is rapidly gaining influence in the sector due to their control over alot of Star Guard Solutions' vehicles and terraforming equipment.
History
The FPU find its origins upon the Llyr Galactic Penetentiary: a "Technical Prison" where prisoners of certain skills would be housed. Illegal stim manufactuerers became Chemists, Android chippers became Android Mechanics, Body Snatchers became rudimentary Medics. Supplies aboard the LGP was becoming scarce, the lack of basic amenities was becoming more apparent and the brutality of the guards upon an already angry population was quickly beginning to reach breaking point. No one is particularly sure when the lights went out, but the cause is well known: the implosion of the BSMC Zaranitsa's warp core caused a blackout of the ship's systems. By the time the guards had time to react, the prisoners were out of their cells and using their considerable gifts to coordinate an effective resistance. Within 7 hours, the entire prison was under the control of the prisoners.
Government and Politics
The Politics of the FPU is centered around the Union Council, considered to be the Bosses of the main gangs within the respective fields. The council meets in the warden's compartment of the prison, which has been repurposed as a meeting hall. A shaky, unofficial agreement between the gangs prevents any violence during these meetings, as well as for 30 standard minutes before and after.
Government of the individual gangs differs wildly, their goals and ideologies vastly different. Many of them hold rivalries with one another, but for the most part agree to cooperate to secure their own situation, both against Star Guard Solutions and the general lack of resources.
Lifestyle and Ideology
Idealogy varies massively from member to member of the FPU, some gangs subscribe to a more "Rob the Rich to feed the Poor" attitude whereas others may simply choose "Rob and Kill the Rich." Some may choose "Rob and Kill". There are 4 main idealogies that encapsulate the majority of inclinations of the members of the FPU:
The Politics of the FPU can be split into 4 older Terran Concepts.
- Communardy: an economic ideology that advocates for a classless society in which all property and wealth are communally owned, instead of being owned by individuals
- Anarky: a political philosophy and movement that is skeptical of all justifications for authority and seeks to abolish the institutions it claims maintain unnecessary coercion and hierarchy, typically including nation-states.
- Entrepenuralism: an idealogy that consists of using labour to generate money in a layered society
- Ultra-Entrepenuralism (Sometimes referred to as OmniTacism): A idealogy that is defined by strong levels of oppression while seeking to maximise outputs without concern for those involved or the effect on enviroment, materials or people.
Lifestyles also vary from gang to gang: some gangs may barely scrape by while some live in luxury but there is one universal rule that all of the FPU follow without question: "No Snitching."
