Black Star Confederacy
The Black Star Confederacy (BSC) is a heavily militarized independent spacefaring nation with a martial government, which holds dominion over the Hesparda System and its hub planet, Haspera-Prime. Every aspect of their society and ideology reflects a strictly disciplined and spartan nature. They are most commonly known for their well documented hostility towards non-humanoid Aliens (such as the Neuromites), as well as towards mega-corporations (Mainly OmniTac) and capitalism as a whole.
History
The BSC was born from what remained of Black Star Security after the events of The Bloody Halving in CE 281. Before becoming the unified government they are today, the group consisted of disorganized splinter factions mostly ruled by a loose anarchist democracy and pirate warlords. This era is known as The Lawless Days. These groups were only unified and officially took the name Black Star Confederacy in CE 297, when they came under threat of a reprisal invasion by OmniTac, which culminated in the Battle for Hesparda. This began the expansionist era, in which the faction looked to the unexplored corners of the Thaurin Galaxy for a new home, where their successors could live in peace. They found a suitable planet in the Syracusa system, but were met with resistance by its native inhabitants, the Neuromites, marking the beginning of the Frontier War in CE 307, which goes on to the present date.
Government and Politics
The Black Star Confederacy is a collectivist military regime, ruled by The Admiral (Currently Qyron Stern), the highest authority in the chain of command, and a military junta, a council consisting of several appointed officers.
Lifestyle and Ideology
The Confederacy is driven by a singular, unifying vision — the discovery of a new habitable planet where their descendants can enjoy a life of lasting tranquility. Fueled by this unwavering purpose, they adhere to a pragmatic ideology that knows no moral quandaries. For them, no sacrifice is too great, for they firmly believe that the ends justify the means. Their society is marked by an austere and Spartan way of life, characterized by strict rationing and an unyielding commitment to maximum efficiency. Each citizen is afforded their basic needs, no more, no less. Additional luxuries are rare, and given as rewards on a meritocratic system. Laws are strict and focused on maintaining order and preserving resources above all else, wastefulness and greed are harshly punished, so are desertion or insurrection.
Central to their ethos is the belief that every individual functions as an essential cog in a well-oiled machine, and they take great pride in their roles within the collective. Service in the Marine Corps is an especially prestigious honor, as those who make the greatest sacrifices in pursuit of the common goal are held in the highest regard. In contrast to their pursuit of a harmonious future, the Confederacy has no qualms with walking over bodies to get there. In fact, decisive action and violence have proven themselves the most effective tools in achieving results, and thus are usually favored above other solutions.
Societal Structure and Military Branches
There are no civilians within the Confederacy’s society, save for children and those declared unfit for service. All able bodied adults are required to serve until death, or until retirement is authorized. When a citizen comes of age at the age of 18 (for Terrans), they are required to enlist with one of the four main branches of the military, but are allowed to enlist as early as 17 years old. These branches are the Black Star Marine Corps (BSMC), the Black Star Pioneer Group (BSPG), the Black Star Intelligence and Security Division (BSISD) and the Black Star Science Division (BSSD). Citizens who do not prove themselves an asset for any of the four divisions during their general aptitude test are assigned to the Black Star Civil Service and Logistics Division (BSCSLD). A sixth branch exists, recently formed, which consists entirely of highly experimental android labourers and soldiers created by the BSSD: Black Star Replika Division (BSRD).
Naming Conventions
Most citizens of the Confederacy opt for short, strong sounding names with hard consonants. Long, flowery and eloquent sounding names are seen as "corporate", and generally looked down upon.
